Impact of COVID-19

Our fourth and fifth weeks classes were cancelled due to breaking out of COVID-19. Through the whole world, the epidemic situation is continuing due to the impact of COVID-19. According to WHO, COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered strain of coronavirus, a type of virus known to cause respiratory infections in humans. This new strain was unknown before December 2019, when an outbreak of pneumonia of unidentified cause emerged in Wuhan, China.

Due to COVID-19 effects, there have been around 50,000 people died, while approximately 1150,000 have been confirmed as positive cases. The most affected countries are USA, Italy, Spain, China, the UK, Germany, France, Iran, Switzerland, Turkey. World economy goes down dramatically because of COVID-19 impacts. This is because almost all types of economic institution including corporate offices have remained close for a long period of time throughout the world. Moreover, millions of people become jobless because of the epidemic.

COVID-19 has also affected hugely in Malaysia in terms of its economy and life. The first case of COVID-19 in Malaysia was detected on 24 January 2020. However, the Malaysian government has taken tremendous initiatives to control the spread of it and eventually they become successful to do that. On 18th March 2020, the Malaysian prime minister first announced lockdown the whole country and imposed movement control order (MCO). After that, they extended the MCO and finally om 10th June it was cancelled, though all the economic institutions are bound to follow standard operation procedure (SOP).

There is a negative impact of the epidemic on our academic sphere. Our university was closed for almost three months due to COVID-19. However, at the beginning of June, the has started again and continues online. It is notable that there will be no face to face class until the end of this year.
